Current estimates are that 70 percent of Americans aren't getting enough sleep, which is considered to be eight hours for an average person. By contrast, studies have shown that the average person sleeps less than seven hours a night. What's more, approximately 100 million Americans, about 35 percent of the population, are chronically sleep-deprived, according to the Simmons company, a manufacturer of sleep products. Consider the fact that almost any level of sleep deprivation can seriously hamper a person's physical condition and mental awareness, then consider that more than a third of the people you see driving around town on any given day didn't get a good night's sleep, and you begin to get the picture.
